Christmas Lessons #1:  The Golden Rule

“Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them” ~ Matthew 7:12

The “Golden Rule” of life is based on the principle Jesus Christ taught in Matthew 7:12. This verse is considered to be a summation of the entire sermon.   This is all the life lessons from Jesus combined. In my personal opinion this is Jesus’s most popular lesson for all human beings irrespective of religion they follow. What do you want others to do to you and for you? Do the same to them and for them.

In other words, whatever you don’t want other people to do to you, you should follow the same and don’t do the similar things to them. Let me make is easier to understand. If you don’t want other people to crib about you on your back, don’t crib about them on their back. If you don’t want other people to steal your bits and pieces, don’t steal what belongs to them. Similarly, if you don’t want the others to hurt you, don’t hurt them. To get love from others, spread love in surroundings. No matter what you believe in, I can bet, you can never go wrong with the Golden Rule – Treat others as you want to be treated.

Christmas Lessons #2:  Don’t love money

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Mammon is another word for money) ~ Matthew 6:24

Don’t run after earning the money and get obsessed with it. The love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. Remember here the money itself is not an evil; it fulfills lot of requirements in today’s modern world. But the love of money will always lead to trouble you in life.

Running after money

The problem is people has started loving money more than god and have made money itself – The God. People have put the humanity, personal relationships, values and principle on side when it comes to money. During the course of my spiritual journey I have made one thing clear in my mind that God is everywhere. It’s in you, me and every other living thing in on the earth like trees, rivers, stones, buildings, birds and animals etc.  and not in money. If you will safeguard yourself from the love of money, you certainly can do many good things with it. Learn the art of controlling your money and don’t allow it to control you.

Christmas Lessons #3:  Prune for growth

“Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. ” ~ John 15:2

Prune is to trim a tree, shrub, or bush by cutting away dead or overgrown branches or stems, especially to encourage growth. Pruning improves overall health and strength of tree.

The things and habits that do not deliver results or make you grow, you must not waste your valuable time on them. Taking away some bad habits like plying games on mobile, watching TV and even some unhealthy relationships hurts a lot. But, it is required to prune them, if you want to achieve your dreams and if you want to grow in life. Most importantly, pruning is required if you want to bear more fruit in your lives. Let go of the things and even people that do not add value and bring you closer to your dreams. It will not only eliminate bad things and friends from your life but also bring closer the good things and best friend which are important in life. Pruning may hurt but it will improve overall growth and quality of your life.

Christmas Lesson #4:  Spiritual greatness

“But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” ~ Matthew 23:11-12

Achieve spiritual greatness through serving others and being humble. If you want to be great, serve poor and needy people with humbleness. Just think about the people who lived life with spiritual greatness like Jesus Christ, Lord Krishna, Dalai Lama, Buddha, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Mahatma Gandhi. They are forever immortalized because they lived their lives with compassion and humbleness in service to others.

Christmas Lesson #5:  Choose words carefully

“Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’” ~ Matthew: 5:37

“By your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” ~ Matthew 12:37

There’s an old proverb saying, “Think twice before you speak.” Choose your words carefully when you speak, they hold power. Your words shape how you live and reveal what’s truly in the heart .Your words greatly affects your interpersonal relationship and acceptance in society. Words make great impact on your emotional bank accounts with your relations. Words are like nail of the fence, which leave scars, even when you remove them.

Christmas Lesson #6 (Bonus Lesson):  Forgiveness

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” ~ Matthew 6:14-15

Forgiveness is an important part of Christianity. This Bible Verse teaches important lesson to forgive people for their mistakes. Make a conscious effort to forgive and let go of feelings that come with bearing a grudge against a person. When you forgive and forget, the negativity flows out and positive vibrations enters in your brain. When you forgive others, you heavenly father (God) will forgive your sins.

  1. Christians claim that a man who lived 2000 years ago is the creator of the universe, ruler of the cosmos, and that after his public execution, he rose from the dead and appeared to over 500 people. Yet they don’t have the dates of his birth, his death, his supernatural resurrection, or any of the post-death appearances to crowds of dozens and even hundreds of eyewitnesses. Not one single date.

And we aren’t talking about the Stone Age. People kept records in the first century of the Roman Empire. They weren’t cavemen. They weren’t idiots.

Why don’t Christians know the date of birth of the “King of Kings”???
