Success Key #6 – Patience

A tree does not grow overnight and bear fruit. Everything needs time to grow. It can take years of patience, or even a decade of grueling work before you start to reap big results from all the time and hard work you’ve put in, and it can be frustrating as hell. Patience is a key to success. To be successful, it takes patience. So much patience.

Learn how to be more patient than everybody else and keep doing the hard work, no matter what anyone else tells you to do. That’s the only way to reach your personal success.

Keys to Success #7 – Goal Setting

Goal setting is one of the keys to success in life. If you want to succeed, you need to set goals. Without goals you lack focus and direction. Goal setting not only allows you to take control of your life’s direction; it also provides you a benchmark for determining whether you are actually succeeding.

Instead of making bigger goals or a complex target, try breaking it down into smaller goals or tasks and plug these smaller milestones into the SMART formula.

SMART Goals

  • Specific – What exactly needs to be done? Well defined, clear, and unambiguous targets to achieve,
  • Measurable – How will you track your progress? The goals should have specific criteria that measure your progress toward the accomplishment.
  • Achievable – Is it realistic? Can it be done by the deadline? The milestones you set by you must be attainable and not impossible to achieve.
  • Relevant – How does it fit with the overall plan or bigger goal? These smaller goals must relevant to your life purpose or task in hand.
  • Timely – When does it need to be done? A clear defined timeline must be there, including a starting date and a end date.

Keys to Success #8 – Networking

Networking skills are given less important than it really deserves. No business school emphasize on development of this skill for success in life. Networking skills are crucial to anyone intending to grow and become successful in life.

Networking involves establishing and developing long-term relations of mutual benefit with people you meet in different places. I understand that when your calendar is already overcrowded with work appointments and family commitments, the last thing you want to do is make small talk with strangers. But, it has numerous benefits like broadening an individual’s view of life, increase in confidence, less anxious feelings, reduced stress and enhanced knowledge.

Keys to Success #9 – Risk Taking

Taking risks may seem scary, but risk is the moat standing between you and true success. As Jack Canfield has said, “Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” You should not be scared of taking risks, just ensure you take smart risks. Taking smart ones can pay off well. You can discover that you’re doing something completely different when you test out different tactics.

Developing good risk-taking abilities takes time. As you learn to take calculated risks in life, you may experience a few painful failures also. It’s best, to begin with, minor risks. Examine all the options and take calculated risks.
